When it comes to fishing, having the right gear is essential, which is why anglers are always on the lookout for the best spinning reel to suit their needs.

Two very popular choices for them are the Pen Battle 2 and the Spinfisher spining reels. Yet no one really know how to compare them.

In this article, I’ll review both spinning reels to hopefully give you an idea about which one of them is better for you.

Penn Battle 2 Spinning Reel

Features

  • Bearing Material: Stainless Steel
  • Handle Material: Stainless Steel
  • Weight: 1 Pounds
PENN Battle III Spinning Inshore Fishing Reel, HT-100 Front Drag, max of 12lb | 6kg, Made with Sturdy All-Aluminum Composition for Durability, Black Gold

Thanks to features such as its full metal body, side plates, and rotor, this Pen Battle 2 spinning reel is able to guarantee anglers years of strong performance.

It’s very common for a bail wire, over time, to get bent or damaged, which can cause the line to tangle and provoque a serious headache. Luckily, this reel comes with a heavy duty aluminium bail wire that will prevent the fishing line from tangling for a longer time than competing spinning reels.

Additionally, it has a multi stop anti-reverse that will ensure that the reel will not spin backwards when you are reeling in a fish, which is a very common issue among us anglers.

On top of that, it’s made with 5 sealed stainless steel ball bearings which will help to reduce friction during the reeling of the fish, making for an even smoother performance.

And, even though some people like to complain about it being a big heavy, it does come with a superline spool which has a larger diameter and a longer length. The larger diameter allows for more line to be wound on the spool, and the longer length helps to reduced the amount of line twist, which are both essential attributes to prevent backing.

Pros

  • Full metal body, side plate, and rotor
  • Heavy duty aluminum bail wire
  • Multi stop anti-reverse that guarantee the reel will not spin backwards when reeling the fish
  • 5 sealed stainless steel ball bearings for a smoother fishing experience
  • Superline spool requires no backing

Cons

  • It’s a bit too heavy

Spinfisher VI Spinning Reel

Features

  • Bearing Material: Stainless Steel
  • Handle Material: Carbon Fiber
  • Weight: 0.76 Pounds
PENN Spinfisher VI Spinning Inshore Fishing Reel, HT-100 Front Drag, Max of 20lb | 9.0kg, Made with an All-Metal Reel Body and Spool Design, 4500, Black Gold

This Spinfisher Spinning Reel, is built tough, with a waterproof and dust-proof body that can stand up to the elements. And it’s not just tough on the outside – the IPX5 sealed body also features a corrosion-resistant construction that ensures long-lasting performance, which is a key feature for most anglers.

The drag washer is responsible for providing tension on the line as it is being pulled from the spool. This tension prevents the line from being pulled from the spool too quickly, which can result in a loss of fish.

Knowing this, the Spinfisher VI spinning reel comes with Ht-100 carbon fiber drag washers that makes them not only much more durable and reliable than the metal ones (which most other spinning reels have) but also much more lightweight, which is a key feature for a spinning reel.

This reel also has a 5 plus 1 sealed stainless-steel ball bearing system which guarantees all anglers a smoother fishing experience.

Last but not leat, this full metal body spinning reels has the so called CNC gear system which guarantees precise alignment under heavy loads, which is a feature that’s hard to find in other spinning reels similarly priced.

Pros

  • IPX5 sealed body
  • Ht-100 carbon fiber drag washers
  • 5 plus 1 sealed stainless-steel ball bearing system
  • Full-metal body for maximum durability
  • CNC gear system in precise alignment under heavy loads

Cons

  • The live liner function on the lowest setting is way too heavy for my linkin

Penn Battle 2 vs Spinfisher: Which One is Better?

There is a very clear difference between the Penn Battle 2 and Spinfisher spinning reels, and that is that the latter has a cooler and more advanced set of features.

I mean, the Spinfisher spinning reels comer with an IPX5 sealed body, carbon fiber drag washers and a CNC gear system which is very precise.

But the question is, do you really need this?

In my opinion both spinning reels are very comparable is terms of performance as both of them have full metal bodies and stainless steel ball bearing systems. The only difference is that “extra” set of features the Spinfisher spinning reel has, which makes it a bit more expensive.

So, which one is better?

Well, I depend the answer depends on your budget and preferences. If you’d like to spend a bit more to have some very advanced spinning reel, then the Spinfisher spinning reel is your choice, yet if you want to save your money and have the basics covered with a great spinning reel then you might prefer the Penn Battle 2.
